Terraforming Mars – Design Task

The rockets in space are filled with people that have not come to Mars yet.

The shelters are the rooms for each and every person

(Black things). They also have air lock tight doors. We need these things to survive because of the lack of oxygen.

The big resource Collector goes back to earth to gather resources Like (Water oxygen and Metal )due to Mars(‘s)not so abundant area so they can expand the growth of humanity on mars.

Mars – Our New Home? Response to text T2 W5

Mars –

Our New Home?

Think carefully about each question, and use evidence from the texts to support your conclusions. Write your answers in full sentences, and use explanations and examples where needed.

Surface Level: Find the Answer in the Text

  1. What are some similarities between Earth and Mars?

The water on mars is frozen and the earth also has water and they also have polar caps

  1. Humans would find it challenging to live on Mars without what?

Oxygen,food and H2O

  1. What are the 3 things that the article says are making our planet Earth unlivable?

Pollution greenhouse gases.

Inference: Use Clues from the Text to Think of an Answer

  1. Explain in your own words why scientists are exploring the possibility of a move to Mars?

Because the habitat that earth has is becoming unlivable like pollution or global warming.

  1. What are some challenges that humans would face if there was a move to Mars?

Lack of oxygen and food as well as the radiation heavily damaging our skin and organs

  1. Why do you think plants will be so important to the terraforming of Mars?

Due to its rough area and lack of human necessities.

Unfamiliar Words: Clarifying Language that may cause Misunderstanding

Word Sentence from the text Definition
Enthusiast Imagine a world far away, where red deserts stretch as far as the eye can see. A planet called Mars, located 342 million kilometres away from Earth, has captured the imagination of scientists and space enthusiasts alike. Having or showing intense and eager enjoyment, interest, or approval.
Potential Mars: Our Potential Future Home? Having or showing the capacity to develop into something in the future.
Abundant While Earth is beautiful and abundant, we must face the reality that our actions are harming our planet. Having a lot of things such as resources
Generate We would need to find ways to grow food, create sustainable habitats, and generate the resources necessary for survival. Produce or create.

Global Inferencing: Making Connections between the Text and the Wider World

Would you want to be one of the first people living on Mars?

Come up with solid reasons for your choice, and provide evidence, and examples to support your reasons.

No I would not because I like earth and it has a very high rate of me dying from things like lack of oxygen and water and also the radiation from Mars eating away at my intestines and guts killing me but it would also speed up my aging process letting me live less and making me look older.

That is why i don’t want to leave earth

Climate change writing

Climate Change – The Biggest Challenge

We have spent the last week learning about Climate Change and the impact that it has on life on Earth. For this week’s writing task we are going to be explaining what Climate Change is, what impact it has, and what we need to do to improve how we look after the environment.

Make sure you have read and understood what Explanatory Writing is, and have made a plan.

Your task is to explain

what Climate Change is, and what impact it has on Earth.

Climate change is the change that is happening to the world. Climate change is caused by emissions, heat and deforestation but it is all only possible with greenhouse gases.

make the atmosphere hotter, melts ice, raises the sea level and drowns whole islands. Another thing that impacts the earth in relation to climate change are droughts.

Climate change is caused by emissions, heat and deforestation but it is all only possible with greenhouse gases. The causes may sound horrible but when I tell you about the effects you’ll realise how much more scarier it is than you think.

The effect of emissions is the air pollution it produces. There are so many emissions that happen from riding a car to whole rockets going to space so all of the gases that have been released will be trapped in the atmosphere.
Deforestation it is extremely unsafe the process that it has is bad but it also means leading from emissions there are less homes for animals that live there and also there won’t be enough trees to absorb the gas from all our emissions and they will be trapped in the earth forever

Climate Change – Response to Text

Climate Change – Response to Texts

Think carefully about each question, and use evidence from the texts to support your conclusions. Write your answers in full sentences, and use explanations and examples where needed.

  1. What are two of the largest sources of climate change? Explain what they are.

Source One: Fossil fuels – coal, oil and gas – are by far the largest contributor to global climate change, accounting for over 75 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and nearly 90 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions.
Source Two: Natural processes, such as changes in the sun’s energy and volcanic eruptions, also affect the earth’s climate.

  1. Explain what impact climate change is having on our environment. Include at least 2 examples.

Fox glacier it was the world’s Largest glacier UNTIL the glacier MELTED and caused a massive landslide and turned into fox river.
Droughts have a big impact on earth from little cities to whole countries

  1. What are greenhouse gases?

Greenhouse gases (also known as GHGs) are gases in the earth’s atmosphere that trap heat. During the day, the sun shines through the atmosphere, warming the earth’s surface. At night the earth’s surface cools, releasing heat back into the air.

  1. How does deforestation contribute to climate change?

Less trees means that if we produce more carbon then now, the trees won’t have enough time to take it in and give out fresh air not allowing the earth to get the carbon out into space

  1. Why is it important to reduce our carbon footprint?

So that the earth doesn’t have to try and release the extra carbon.
